Great BIG Weekend

The following is from 2013’s events. We are not currently hosting the Great BIG Weekends. If you would like to book a Great BIG Weekend for your group, company, team or enemies, please contact with the words “Great BIG Weekend” in your subject. Thanks!

Thanks to the excellent Alessio Carone for the poster you can learn a lot in our regular weekly workshops, the best way to learn a lot is to take part in a more immersive, intensive weekend away. After the huge success of September‘s “Great BIG Weekend“, we’ve decided to do another one!

Perfect for newcomers who want to try it out and overcome their shyness, and for old hands who know they still have more to learn… Join us for a series of workshops, games and activities that will focus on acceptance, trust, and listening to one another, as we create interactive spontaneous scenes. The whole weekend is designed to give you all opportunities to bring out your creative side, to express yourself, and to learn to be funny at a moment’s notice.

The Great BIG Weekend runs from 6pm on Friday the 12th of April until 1:30pm on Sunday the 14th (late arrival is not an issue on Friday night), and will take place at El Masnou, a beautiful little beach town just 30 minutes north of Barcelona by train. We’ll be staying in a magnificent villa, with large kitchen, courtyard and terrace areas, just 10 minutes walk from the beach.

The workshop includes over 12 hours of classes and workshops, designed to build your confidence in your skills as you get to know your fellow performers better.

Meals are all included in the price, including the continental breakfasts, picnic lunches, first night barbecue and second night tapas ingredients. Alcohol will NOT be included, but there are shops up the road where you can buy some (or bring your own).

The weekend will be taught by two fantastic instructors – Matthew Watson Jones and Isaac Simon. We both have years of Improv experience, both on stage and in leading workshops and classes. Most sessions are optional – if you’d rather chill on the beach, that’s fine!

Good scenes need good characters. Matt will lead a workshop that helps you to expand your repertoire of characters, and, through good listening and teamwork, to react to and interact with other people’s creations.

In improvisation, there are no props or sets. Isaac will teach the art of creating and relating to objects, environments, and other parts of the physical space using the most important tool in improv theater: your imagination!

Learn the basic practice of Shambhala sitting meditation on the beach at sunset. Isaac will be instructing with short readings from Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche and Pema Chodron, as well as tips from years of tutelage under his crazy-assed Buddhist father.

Once you apply for a place (and tell us any special food requirements you have), we’ll send you the specifics – how to get there and how to pay. Your email or application is not the same as having a reservation – your spot is only reserved for you once we’ve received your money. As it’s first come first served, and there are only 12 spaces available, we advise you to book it as soon as you can.
