Longform Level 2: The Harold
This course is not available this term. Please visit http://www.barcelonaimprovgroup.com/classes/ to see what is on offer for Winter 2017.
Starting on Wednesday, September 23rd, B.I.G. will be offering the following class. Students must have completed an Introduction to Longform course here or elsewhere, and if not, must audition for the course. If you wish to take it, please read the class dates and reserve your space.
The Harold is the original Longform format. An improvised play in 3 acts, The Harold was developed by Del Close in 1967 and in the last 50 years it has become the foundation for most improv performed around the world. In this class, students will enhance their skills in scenework and stagecraft developed in Intro to Longform and learn how to create coherent stories that stretch across longer sets. In addition to learning more about the structure of improvised theatre, students will develop characters and scenarios that can be repeated and explored throughout a show. Previous experience and approval from the instructor are required.
This is a special 8-week course, taught by BIG instructor Noah Levin, that opens up improvisation to be more than just a scene, but a full theatrical experience. Students applying to this class must have taken Introduction to Longform or must audition for the class September 20th. Please inquire on the form below if you would like to set up an audition.
True Characters – As an actor, you will create three dimensional characters and explore how they are affected and evolve throughout a show
Everyone is the Director – In a Harold, the entire team is not only collaborating to create the story, but the tone and theme of your show are crafted by your choices.
Creativity – The Harold is all about weaving ideas together. Learn to honor your choices and those of others to find satisfying, creative, turns that are impossible without collaboration.
Develop your Improv Brain – See the big picture. You’re not just improvising a scene, you and your team are listening to EVERYTHING done over a half hour to stitch together a play with beginning, middle, and end… without any advanced planning
