Meet the BIG Team

2016-7-cast-photo-for-flyer-all-in-bedLet us introduce ourselves!

John Lane crashed to Earth in infant form in the summer of 1973. At the age of 11 he found a crystal containing a message from his real parents, telling him that his home planet was in perfect shape and likely to stay that way… they simply hadn’t liked his face. John was under no circumstances ever to return and had been genetically modified so that he wouldn’t develop any super-powers and would thus remain wholly unremarkable. Given the irony, John had little recourse but to turn to comedy, which he excelled at watching until, 25 years later, it occurred to him to try and do some. He is still trying. Distinguishing features: luxurious all-over body hair and a disturbing obsession for Doctor Who.

Severin Mahncke, aka “Sev”, was born in Bonn, West Germany, and thus living the youth of a late Cold War kid. Once the Wall fell and the neonpink 80’s ended, Berlin was the only option. Spending years in the darkness of squatted houses and forbidden clubs with 190bpm Tekkno music, he learned everything there is to learn about fooling around on and off stage. Consequently he became an improv player and a member of Berlin’s No.1 troupe “frei.wild improtheater”. However, when winter was coming and whisky was out, he fled the city and found shelter with his longtime lover, Barcelona. To distract himself from all the Weltschmerz he went to the BIG IF and was so charmed by the members he couldn’t help but do it again. Being “ze Dscherman” he preferred to set out shushing everyone on stage. Where else? Shush! Pssst!

At age 3, Ella Galt made her theatrical debut as The Star (no… literally) in her Kindergarten’s Christmas nativity play spectacular and thereby reached the premature glorious peak of her acting career. Professional credits since that gold-spangled performance include dancing around in front of unimpressed (or worse… indifferent) Italian teenagers, singing the tenor line in community theatre chorus numbers, and standing around in costume at travel fairs just hoping not to get yelled at. Ella is thrilled to be adding B.I.G performances to her incomprehensibly impressive CV (growing more incomprehensible impressive each day) and has high hopes for a second career peak (hah! get it?). This seems likely possible as long as no one asks her to do accents or make jokes which aren’t self-deprecating or pun-based.

Noah Levin hails from a little corner of the Rocky Mountains of North America (top 2 finisher for Best America, 1989). He started drama classes at summer camp in the woods of northern California and hasn’t looked back since, becoming a theatre major at university, teaching drama (at schools and that same summer camp in the woods), and studying improv at the People’s Improv Theatre and Upright Citizen’s Brigade in New York (top 2 finisher for Best York, 1664). Noah has taught improv workshops to actors, students, and professionals in the US, Spain, France, and Poland. In high school, Noah was voted “most likely to stalk someone”, but there’s a really simple explanation if you give give him a chance. Don’t run! Learn more about Noah as a teacher.

Stephanie Figueira works as an actor, emcee, voice over artist and has been performing with the Barcelona Improv Group since 2011. Born and raised in Toronto, Canada to Portuguese parents, Steph realized that Europe was the place to be… topless.

Spawned by bookworms and raised by cats, Jeremie Day-Glider remained feral until the age of 16, when she found out that paint and power tools could mix to make MAGIC! From then on, she explored all manner of communal tik tok tek and trekked the backstage fantastic from tip to tale in the US of A. One year after arriving in BCN, in dire need of some laughs and sunshine, she went to play in the park by the sea and came down with a virulent case of BIG. Mind this cautionary tail, adventurers all!

Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY on a diet rich in Sci-Fi, Musical Theatre and Jewish Guilt, Evan Schweitzer has wandered the Earth searching for meaning and hoping that the truth is out there (cue the theme song). Evan has performed throughout the USA in musicals, plays and Shakespeare (the unrehearsed kind). He even got roped into a dance showcase where he moved….awkwardly. Evan received his degree in Theatre Arts from Rutgers University and has studied at UCB in NYC and the Barrow Group.

Matthew Watson Jones was raised amongst cattle on an isolated farmstead in Shropshire, England. Years of calling the cows home across the fields have left him… loud. Emerging into the civilized world, he started Improv at uni when he realised that not everyone enjoyed his nose flute concerts (don’t ask) as much as he did. In BIG, he is known as “The Baron”, and is often found teaching the weekend workshops. His favourite game is Weakest Link, and the rest of the cast voted him “Most Likely to Scream Like A Little Girl”.
